Introduction: It is pleasure introducing Prof. Anwar Gilani, whose career is that of a distinguished Pharmacologist, combining novel discoveries and distinctive mentorship roles, who won merit scholarship from primary school to PhD. He obtained his BSc in Agriculture and MSc in Pharmacology with distinction from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and then his PhD from University of Sydney. He joined Aga Khan University in 1986 as lecturer and rose to full professor in 1997, where he occupied multiple leadership positions before occupying national level position of Chairman, Pakistan Council for Science and Technology and now holds the position of Vice Chancellor here at University of Haripur.

Prof. Gilani occupied 1st national ranking in Pharmaceutical Sciences, maintained this position since last two decades and won several national/international research awards including Boehringer Ingelheim Award, Salam Prize by TWAS and Ibn-Al-Haytham Prize in Science. The Government of Pakistan has bestowed upon him the title of Distinguished National Professor, Life-Time Academic Achievements Award and two civil awards (Pride of Performance and Sitara-i-Imtiaz). He represented Pakistan in the area of Science, Technology and Health at several international forums including at the United Nations and WHO meetings.

Prof. Gilani has published over 450 articles on different fields (cited over 16,000 times) with an h-index of 68 (Google, Aug, 2018). He has served as an advisor to WHO on Essential Medicine and International Foundation for Science. Prof. Gilani is a Fellow, Pakistan Academy of Science as well as Fellow of TWAS – The World Academy of Sciences.

Why did the Dutch flag change?

Why did the Dutch flag change? Originally, the Dutch flag was coloured: orange-white-blue, from top to bottom. Today, the colour is red-white-blue. It is one of the oldest national flags in the world and it inspired many other famous red-white-blue flags, such as the one of Luxembourg, France and Russia. Ours is the mother of all red-white-blue flags. But why the red? The orange was an obvious reference of the royal house of Orange, the family that supplies our kings and queens even today.
